Selected Current Activities and Initiatives
Working Group on Late Night Activities
- In fall 2007, Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Lola Lopes created a Working Group with the following charge:
- Create, during spring 2008, several proof-of-concept alcohol free late night activities; and
- Identify a long-term strategy to increase the number and quality of alcohol free late night activities.
- A second Working Group was charged with recommending changes and additions to University policies related to student alcohol use.

Task Forces
- Diversity Action Committee - Provost Hogan appointed the Diversity Action Committee in fall 2005 to help guide campus efforts to implement and achieve the diversity goals outlined in the new Strategic Plan, The Iowa Promise.
- Gender Equity Task Force - Provost Hogan appointed the Gender Equity Task Force in fall 2005 to take a broad look at the status of women faculty at The University of Iowa and recommend changes and programs to increase the number of women faculty and improve their quality of life.
- Intercollegiate Task Force on the Organization of Research and Education in the Life Sciences - In spring 2007 Provost Hogan formed the Intercollegiate Task Force on the Organization of Research and Education in the Life Sciences, to investigate how The University of Iowa can better leverage its exceptional strengths in basic and applied life sciences.
- Mentoring Task Force - In January 2006 Provost Hogan appointed the Mentoring Task Force to take a broad look at the status of faculty mentoring at The University of Iowa.
- Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Task Force - In January 2006 Provost Hogan appointed a task force to examine the university's preparedness in the event of an influenza pandemic.
- Writing University Task Force - Provost Hogan appointed the Writing University Task Force in fall 2005 to explore possibilities for developing synergies among the various groups that contribute to the reputation of Iowa as the "Writing University."
