The University of Iowa

Announcement re: UI degree offerings in Des Moines

Faculty and Staff Colleagues:

I want to alert you to some very good news that will shortly be shared with the public, via a joint announcement by President Sally Mason and President Nancy Williams of AIB College of Business in Des Moines.

AIB--a nonprofit, private, four-year accredited college in Des Moines--is being gifted to the University of Iowa, and will become the University of Iowa Des Moines campus.

When the transition is complete (a process that will take many months), the University of Iowa will own what are now AIB's land and buildings in Des Moines, and will offer UI degree programs there.

The leadership teams of both institutions are committed to supporting students at every step of the way during the transition, and to ensuring that the process is inclusive and transparent.

As you know, we already have a presence in Des Moines.  We are, for example, partnering with Des Moines Area Community College on 2+2 BS/BA degree completion programs, and we offer programs in social work and communication as well as the Masters in Business Administration programs at the John and Mary Pappajohn Educational Center.  With the extensive facilities that AIB is entrusting to us, however, we will be able to do much, much more--dramatically expanding our degree offerings to the people of Des Moines and the surrounding region.

This historic announcement represents an extraordinary opportunity to build on the commitment of the Board of Regents to offer access to affordable, high-quality education to the people of our state.  I hope you share my excitement about the possibilities ahead.
