The Provost’s Global Forum is the premier annual event on campus focused on international and global issues. The Forum brings together experts from the faculty and leading voices from a variety of areas (business, technology, education, politics) to raise awareness about and contribute to debate on the foremost issues in globalization that face us today. In addition to serving the University of Iowa community broadly, the Forum endeavors to build connections between the University and the state of Iowa, and positions the UI as a national node in discussions of global affairs.

Following on the work of the 2009 UI Strategic Planning Task Force on Public Outreach and Civic Engagement, theOffice of the Provost established a Committee on Engagement to begin operationalizing an “engagement roadmap” for the University. During its first year, one of that committee’s most important efforts was to explore the possibility of pursuing the Carnegie Foundation’s elective “Community Engagement” classification.

We write to let you know that the Dual Career Network (DCN), which assists the accompanying partners of new, permanent faculty/staff in seeking employment, will transition to a new reporting relationship with the Career Center effective January 22, 2013. The DCN currently reports to the Associate Provost for Faculty.

With the Lola Lopes Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy, the Office of the Provost each year honors a University of Iowa administrator, staff member, or faculty member (in a non-teaching role) who supports undergraduate education and serves as a strong, effective advocate for undergraduate students and the undergraduate experience.

As you know, students are free to use ISIS to add and drop courses until 11:59 p.m. on the night before classes start. As it is set up now in the spring, students can add and drop without anyone’s signature until 11:59 p.m.
