Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity (BUILD) Certificate Program

The Chief Diversity Office is pleased to announce a new professional development initiative for University of Iowa faculty and staff, beginning fall 2015.

Building University of Iowa Leadership for Diversity (BUILD) creates an opportunity for UI faculty and staff to develop strategic knowledge and skills to contribute to a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. By completing a series of workshops, participants will earn a certificate demonstrating their commitment to acting as leaders for diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace and classroom.

Attending the BUILD sessions is an excellent step for UI employees to expand their understanding of diversity and inclusion and to demonstrate progress and commitment toward identified universal competencies. Please help us by sharing information about the BUILD initiative with employees in your area who may be interested.

To earn a BUILD certificate, participants must register for and attend the Beyond the Numbers: Foundations for Diversity & Inclusion core workshop and at least five electives. The Chief Diversity Office will maintain a transcript of completed courses. Once individuals have completed the requirements for the certificate, they will be notified and sent a signed certificate, and they will be recognized at the annual Diversity Catalyst Awards held each spring.

There are no fees for any of the sessions offered. Participants must register in advance through UI Employee Self-Service at http://hris.uiowa.edu. Sessions are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.
