Highlights of recent/upcoming activity:

  • Jordan Cohen attended an APLU annual meeting session focused on how to sustain research programmatic strengths in a difficult federal budget situation. The speaker was Kelvin Droegemeier, vice chair of the National Science Board. Jordan found the talk insightful and thought it might be of broader interest. The slides from the presentation are posted at http://provost.uiowa.edu/docs/deans/docs/Droegemeier.pdf.
  • The University of Iowa now belongs to the Academic Affairs Forum (as well as the Business Affairs Forum) of the Education Advisory Board, which provides best practice research, peer networking, analyst access (consultations, webinars, a dedicated advisor), and custom research (short answer research projects). Membership includes access to more than 500 short reports on useful topics. To get started, register at www.eab.com/members/register.
  • This spring, ITS will host a continuation of the fall 2012 Internet2/EDUCAUSE pilot, which involved about 800 students. This pilot will include two partnerships, one with CourseLoad etext reader and McGraw-Hill (repeating the fall pilot but with 400 students), and adding a new partner, CourseSmart, which will provide free texts from multiple publishers for 100 students. Faculty members participating in the pilot are from the Colleges of Business, Education, and Liberal Arts and Sciences, including many of the faculty who participated this fall.
