On Iowa! Volunteer Opportunity

Greetings, Hawkeye Colleagues.

In a few weeks, the 2016 On Iowa! program will be in full swing to welcome our campus community's newest students. We still have a variety of volunteer positions to fill during this very exciting -- and busy -- time of year.

If you are able to spare two to three hours between Wednesday, August 18 through Sunday, August 21 to assist and interact with members of the Class of 2020 and transfer students, please consider volunteering.

Some of the jobs/areas that need volunteers include:

Strategic Planning Open Forums

The university community and its constituents will be meeting over the next couple of months to outline the university's strategic plan moving into the future.  The Strategic Plan Development Group (SPDG) will host a number of open forums at which students, faculty, and staff can share their views on overarching strategies and goals they see as central to the university's mission.  On June 30, 2016 the SPDG will submit a strategic plan that reflects these strategies and goals to Provost Butler and Vice President Rocklin.  In the 2016-17 academic year Provost Butler will convene work groups

UI State of Graduate Education address, March 9

Dear Members of the University Community:

You are cordially invited to join me for the second annual State of Graduate Education address on Wednesday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the Art Building West Auditorium (240 ABW). A brief Q&A will follow the address, with a reception afterward in the ABW atrium.

This is a time of unprecedented change and opportunity in graduate education, on this campus and nationally. Please join me to hear about:

Call for Nominations: The Lola Lopes Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy

TO:     All Faculty, Staff, and Students

FROM:   Associate Provost Lon Moeller

RE:     Call for Nominations: The Lola Lopes Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy

With the Lola Lopes Award for Undergraduate Student Advocacy, the Office of the Provost each year honors a University of Iowa administrator, staff member, or faculty member (in a non-teaching role) who supports undergraduate education and serves as a strong, effective advocate for undergraduate students and the undergraduate experience.

2nd Annual Theme Semester: "Just Living"

The University of Iowa is excited to begin its second annual Theme Semester "Just Living". This semester's focus will be on social justice and will allow for discussion and reflection on many related topics, including race, identity, environmental justice, educational access, housing and health disparities, and much more. The University of Iowa's academic mission is deeply connected to social justice, and we should be incorporating this topic in our coursework and units during the semester and beyond.

Reminder: all UI-owned laptops and tablets must be encrypted by Dec. 31

Reminder: all UI-owned laptops and tablets must be encrypted by Dec. 31

The Dec. 31 deadline for encrypting all university-owned laptops, tablets, and external storage devices is quickly approaching. Campus IT staff have been working hard on this project, and over 80% of portable devices are now encrypted. However, everyone’s cooperation is needed to achieve 100% compliance by the end of the calendar year, as required by the Board of Regents.
